Our Story

GWH is an independent builder and developer proudly based in Newcastle. For more than 25 years, we’ve worked alongside people and businesses in our region, delivering residential, commercial and industrial places that support everyday life and long-term growth.

Built for opportunity

We take the time to understand what’s happening here, in our local community, our economy and the way people live and work. That insight helps us deliver practical, high-quality projects that open doors and create real opportunity.

From helping someone buy an apartment in Newcastle’s tallest tower, to delivering a new retail space, to supporting a business to grow into an industrial property they can own, we’re proud to make things possible.

With more than $1 billion in completed projects and over 350 clients, we’re proud of what we’ve built so far and excited for what comes next, continuing to build for life and help people and businesses move forward with confidence.

Our History

GWH was founded in 1995 by Grahame Chevalley and Hilton Grugeon AM, with a clear ambition: to build quality property that opens doors for people and businesses across our region. Since our first industrial building in Thornton, we’ve grown through steady delivery, strong partnerships and an integrated approach that supports quality, safety and long-term value.

Build Over Time

Industrial foundations

GWH began with industrial delivery and quickly established a reputation for quality outcomes. Early projects included major builds such as Maitland Federation Centre, the Hunter Concrete Products Building and Tyrrell’s Wineries.

Commercial growth

As the business expanded, we increased our focus on commercial development, delivering projects such as the Thornton Supa Centre, Hunter Supa Centre, One Reliance commercial office and warehouse strata units, and neighbourhood shopping centres. During the GFC years, disciplined planning and strong management saw GWH continue to deliver, including hotel and accommodation developments like the Bradford Hotel and Maitland Motel & Conference Centre, as well as Maitland Toyota projects.

Residential expansion and recognition

In the years that followed, GWH continued to broaden into high-quality residential delivery across the region. In 2015, we celebrated 20 years of making property possible and were proud to win the Master Builders Newcastle Excellence in Building Award. By 2020, our work was recognised for both quality and innovation, including top recognition at the NSW SafeWork Awards and the Hunter Safety Awards, along with Master Builders Apartment Development of the Year for AERO. Key projects from this period include AERO, SOHO, Millhorn and Centrale Apartments.

Building what’s next

Today, we continue to deliver residential, commercial and industrial projects that support long-term value and everyday performance. Recent recognition includes Master Builders Apartment Development of the Year for Sky Residences, alongside completed projects such as Highpoint and Elder Street apartments, Belmont service station and fast food, Hive Childcare, Impact Mining industrial unit and Wyee Shopping Village.
