GWH’s ONE Apartments reached a significant milestone as it officially became Newcastle’s tallest building, with the structure now complete at 1 National Park Street.
The ‘topping out’ of the building is the latest construction milestone with structural works completed, the project team will continue the internal fit-out, services installation and exterior works. This momentous occasion marks a significant step in the city’s ongoing transformation and solidifies ONE Apartments as a premier residential address.
To mark the 22nd and final concrete slab pour of the south tower, GWH Directors Grahame Chevalley, Jonathan Craig, and Hilton Grugeon joined construction manager George Araujo, project manager Bradley Aldous, members of the construction team, and special guests for a traditional topping-out ceremony on the rooftop. A ceremonial tree was placed at the highest point of the structure – a time-honoured custom in the construction industry.
- Jonathan Craig - Managing Director
Among the guests were architects Juergen Weigl, Principal at Marchese Partners, and Stuart Campbell, Director at CKDS Architecture, who had the chance to witness their designs take shape and enjoy the panoramic views from the top floor.

Topping-out ceremonies are a significant event in the life of a construction project, bringing together all key stakeholders – from builders and architects to subcontractors and investors – to celebrate a major achievement. Beyond marking the completion of a structure’s highest point, it is a moment to honour the dedication, craftsmanship, and collaboration that brought the project this far.
The south tower, part of the National Park Street development, will house 198 apartments across two towers. Its rooftop, which will eventually serve as a communal space for residents, boasts sweeping views from the harbour and ocean, stretching south to Merewether and north as far as Port Stephens.
The landmark twin-tower development, featuring 193 spacious one, two, and three-bedroom apartments, is set to redefine urban luxury in Newcastle West. With completion on track for late 2025, ONE Apartments has surpassed the current tallest building, Verve, to sit as the tallest building in Newcastle at over 72 meters high.
Located at the corner of National Park and King Streets, the development offers expansive views of the city, harbour, and beaches. Residents will enjoy exceptional amenities, including an outdoor pool, cinema, gym, sauna, two rooftop entertainment areas, and a private function room on the 22nd floor. Each apartment is finished to the high standard GWH is renowned for, ensuring a blend of style, comfort, and quality.
ONE Apartments follows GWH’s successful completion of Sky Residences, which until now was the tallest building constructed by the developer. The company’s commitment to Newcastle’s evolution continues with the recent commencement of demolition at its newest project, ERA Newcastle on King Street. This two-tower development, featuring 281 one, two, and three-bedroom apartments, will further enhance the city’s vibrant West End.
